Leila de Lima as one of our 52 Women on Top

In June 2009 we ranked then CHR Chairperson Leila de Lima as one of UNO Magazine’s 52 Women on Top. Today she takes seat in the Department of Justice under incoming President Benigno Aquino III. if you have the cover below, she’s there.

Chairperson, Commission of Human Rights
Despite not being known for human rights before her appointment, Commission of Human Rights chairperson Leila de Lima wasted no time in disproving her critics, accusing both the Justice Secretary and the military of abuses in power. Decrying “institutional cowardice,” she’s not backing down against Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and his alleged Davao Death Squad―proving that Hell hath no fury like a woman sworn in (to do a job).
