    Servings from the Portuguese: O’Sohno

    We step into O’Sohno’s dream of Portuguese cuisine with the talented, outspoken, Pixie-ish artist Wiji Lacsamana.

    Portuguese cuisine is characterized by a heavy use of chorizo in their dishes. Coming from a port country, fish, especially cod, pervades most of its dishes. It came as a surprise, then, that this month, our Ravenous dining partner would be a vegetarian. Could you still have the flavor and essence of the cuisine even without the meat?

    We sat down to dine with La Union-bred and Manila-based freelance graphic designer Wiji Lacsamana. Also one of the propreietors of the recently-opened Nomnomnom restaurant on the corner of Tomas Morato and E. Rodriguez, she took time off from running her place to share a meal and see if O’Sohno could satisfy our questions and our cravings.

    It’s twenty-five years on after 1984. Some may argue that we’re already living in Orwell’s dystopia where ‘Big Brother’ is not so much watching us as we are watching everyone else. In fact, on some sites on the Internet you can pay for the pleasure of viewing images of a boot stamped on a human face―if not forever then at least until your credit runs out. But “doublethink” the situation and it isn’t all that bad: especially if it’s perhaps the lovely host of Pinoy Big Brother Bianca Gonzalez who’s watching and wearing those leather boots.
